In Luke 14, Jesus tells a parable of a man who prepared a great feast and invited many guests to participate in the festivities and break bread with him. However, when the time for the feast arrived, the guests made excuses and did not come. The man then sent his servant to invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame. The servant returned and told the man, “Sir, what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.” (Luke 14:22)
This parable shows us the importance of being ready and prepared for the time that has been set before us. As we journey through life, we must not waste the precious time that has been given to us. We must be ready and prepared to answer the call of God when He beckons us to come.
The “Table of Luke” also reveals to us the importance of keeping track of time.
Luke 3:1-2 states, “In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar–when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene–during the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.”
This passage shows us that the word of God came to John at a specific time and during specific rulerships. It is important for us to keep track of time so that we can discern the season that we are in and understand God’s timing for our lives.
Let us make the most of the time that we have been given. Let us be ready and prepared to answer the call of God when He beckons us to come. Let us keep track of time and discern the season that we are in so that we can walk in step with God’s plan for our lives.
As the Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 5:15-17, “Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”
